Babis Bizas has traveled to every single sovereign state of the world

Babis Bizas, the man who travels more than 300 days per year, each year and is the ”world’s most traveled person” according to the Guinness Book of Records, is Greek.

Bizas, born in 1954 in Greece’s Arta, is an explorer, author, travel writer and tour operator.

After completing his studies at University and learning many languages, among which are English, Russian, Spanish, and French, Bizas made the decision to work in a field related to travel. Thus, he started his career as a tour escort with big tour operators in Greece.

After decades of traveling all over the world, Bizas proudly claims that he is the only Greek, not to mention one of the very few individuals on the planet, who has visited both the North and the South Pole.

In 1996 he took part in an expedition to the North Pole and nearly 18 years later, in 2014, he traveled to the South Pole.

He says that it was his duty, as a Greek, to raise the flag of his homeland there.

Today, he works as a manager at COSMORAMA Travel where he plans trips to places that are not well-known or popular, like Kurdistan or Transnistria.

Currently, he’s in North America with a group of people.

”We are now in New Brunswick of Canada, next to USA’s Maine and we are about to leave for our next destination, here on the East coast between USA and Canada” Bizas told the Greek Reporter.

They leave early morning every day to explore the autumn’s beauty of this side of the world.

Bizas’ planned tours are always full and booked months out.

Although mainly Greeks follow Bizas’ travels and take his tours, people from as far as Australia and the USA have booked and participated as well.

Bizas has always been a man who travels to unusual and unexpected destinations. By 2004 he had managed to visit every single sovereign State on Earth — not so difficult to imagine, taking into consideration that even as a University student he had already traveled as a backpacker nearly all over Europe.

It’s no wonder why many travelers, who want someone with the experience and knowledge to lead their tour to destinations where no tourist infrastructure is available, are looking upon him.

When asked about his favorite place, Bizas says that his passion is the tribal areas of Africa and Asia, where the old cultures and societies with deep roots and traditions have managed to survive even in today’s societies, resisting modernization.

No two tours Bizas conducts are the same — not even when he tours the same country. Every time he returns from a trip, something different is added to the next itinerary.

No matter what you believe or where you come from, we all must agree on one thing: Bizas is a symbol and a live legend of Greece!

Babis Bizas, a 64-year-old who was born Charalampos Bizas on the 16th of September 1954 in Epirus, Greece, is a travel writer, explorer, tour operator, and has gone into the Guinness Book of Records as “The most travelled person in the world.”

Bizas’ journeys have led him from one side of the world to the other and he participated in an expedition to the North Pole in May 1996. Almost 18 years later, in December 2014, he landed in the South Pole, becoming the only one Greek and one of a few to have visited both Poles.

“The journey to the South Pole had to be done. As others go to Agios Gerasimos to fulfill a vow, I felt it was my duty, as a Greek, to raise the Greek flag there, ” Babis’ said.

By 2004 Bizas had visited all 194 sovereign countries of the world at that time and is currently a member of the RGO (Russian Geographic Society).

As a university student, he travelled as a backpacker in Europe mostly hitchhiking and in 1977 he followed the stream of the young European travellers to India in his twenties.

He loved Afghanistan and was fascinated by Bangladesh. When the money was about to finish he found a job on one of the numerous Greek ships anchored in the port of Colombo in Sri Lanka and sailed to Mozambique, South Africa, and the United States. For the next 8 years, he was busy travelling as a tour leader. In 1987 when he had already travelled to all the known tourist destinations, he decided to slow down his trips for a while to concentrate on planning and organising new tours for small groups and he then created The Cultural Tours, beginning with Cambodia and Vietnam (but not Laos at that time yet) where he led the first group.

Soon, the countries of West Africa like Chad, Nigeria, and Guinea Bissau followed, where the locals saw for the first time such a number of people traveling together. In a couple of years, the Cultural Tours became a hit.

Babis has travelled numerous times to Antarctica, visited the remote Islands of the Aleutian Chain in Alaska, and explored the off beaten track islands of the Pacific. But his passion was the tribal areas of Africa and Asia where old cultures and traditions are still alive.

He has spent time with the Himbas in northern Namibia, loved and been loved by the Hamers in South Ethiopia, met with the Bela in Niger and escorted the first visitors to the tribal areas of the Apatanis in Arounachal Pradesh and to the mountain areas of Southern China. It comes as no surprise the National Geographic has described him as “The most travelled person in the world”.

The tours Babis plans and organises are completely booked months ahead and no two tours in the same country are ever alike. Every time he returns from a trip something different is added to the next one.

Although he lives in Athens, he is away from his home for more than 300 days a year, exploring new areas of the world. Babis’ tour groups mainly consist of Greeks but has been joined by expats who live in Athens or travellers who came from as far as Australia, Taiwan, Mauritius, and the USA.

Something tells us Babis is in no hurry to slow down with his travels either!

Η ζωή είναι ένα ταξίδι που ο καθένας μας το κάνει με τους δικούς του όρους.

Ο Μπάμπης Μπίζας είναι ο άνθρωπος που έχει ταξιδέψει σε όλες τις χώρες του κόσμου! Έχει κατακτήσει το ρεκόρ Γκίνες, αλλά όπως λέει στο Πινάκιο δεν ήταν αυτή η επιδίωξη του…αλλά του άρεσε να αλλάζει συνεχώς παραστάσεις, να ανταλλάσσει ιδέες να μαγεύεται από νέους Πολιτισμούς.

Αυτά που διηγείται είναι συγκλονιστικά…Είναι ο μόνος άνθρωπος που έχει βρεθεί σε όλα τα μήκη και πλάτη της γης!

Συνέντευξη στον Λευτέρη Χ. Θεοδωρακόπουλο για το Πινάκιο

Μιλάει για τα κριτήρια επιλογής των προορισμών του, για τις χώρες που τον έχουν σαγηνέψει, για τις προσωπικότητες που γνώρισε, για τις περιπέτειες του κατά μεσοίς της θάλασσας, για το πώς έζησε σε εμπόλεμες ζώνες αλλά και για τις πιο γευστικές γεύσεις του κόσμου!

Στέλνει τα δικά του μηνύματα προς πάσα κατεύθυνση και αναδεικνύει τις μεγάλες πληγές του πλανήτη, ενώ τονίζει πως η Ελλάδα έχει μια μοναδικότητα που δεν την έχει συναντήσει πουθενά στην γη!

Πως ξεκίνησε το όλο εγχείρημα με τα ταξίδια; Εγώ προσωπικά όταν έμαθα πως είστε ο άνθρωπος που έχει περπατήσει σε όλες τις χώρες του κόσμου, μου ήρθε στο νου εικόνα από καρτούν που γυρίζουν την υδρόγειο και κάπως έτσι διαλέγουν τον επόμενο προορισμό τους… Πως το κάνετε εσείς;

«Τα πράγματα είναι πιο απλά . Πρώτα πρέπει να θέλεις πολύ να ταξιδέψεις και μετά να προσπαθείς συνεχώς να το πετύχεις αξιοποιώντας κάθε ευκαιρία προς αυτή την κατεύθυνση.

Σαν φοιτητής είχα ταξιδέψει αρκετά με το σακίδιο στην πλάτη στην Ανατολική και τη Δυτική Ευρώπη και στην Ασία φτάνοντας οδικώς μέχρι την Ινδία το Μπαγκλαντές και την Κεϋλάνη. Από κει μπάρκαρα σαν μούτσος σε   ελληνικό πλοίο και βρέθηκα στη Μοζαμβίκη , τη Νότιο Αφρική και την Αμερική. Ένα ταξίδι που αρχικά σκόπευα να διαρκέσει 15 μέρες -όσο οι διακοπές του Πάσχα- και τελικά κράτησε σε 5 1/2   μήνες!

Γύρισα γεμάτος εμπειρίες και αυτοπεποίθηση ότι τελικά όλα μπορούν να γίνουν.

Ναι. Θα μπορούσα να επισκεφθώ όλες τις χώρες του κόσμου.

Όταν τελείωσα και το στρατό προσέγγισα τα ταξιδιωτικά γραφεία της Αθήνας και κατέληξα αρχηγός εκδρομών στο MANOS TRAVEL. Τα πήγαινα καλά σαν αρχηγός και έμεινα 20 χρόνια στην εταιρεία. Στο διάστημα αυτό οργάνωσα ταξίδια για τα ελληνικά γκρουπ σε μέρη που ακόμα και σήμερα είναι «απαγορευμένα» στους μεγάλους Διοργανωτές Ταξιδιών ( Tour Operators) του εξωτερικού .

Νιγηρία, Γουινέα Μπισάου , Τσαντ και τα ανάλογα. Οι Έλληνες ταξιδιώτες ανταποκρίθηκαν με ενθουσιασμό στα νέα ταξίδια που είχα την ευτυχία να τα συνοδεύω ο ίδιος.

Έτσι μέχρι το 2002 είχα επισκεφθεί μέσα από την διοργάνωση αυτών των ταξιδιών σχεδόν όλες τις χώρες εκτός από τις τελευταίες 14 . Οι 13 ήταν στην Αφρική σε εμπόλεμες ζώνες . Με τρία ταξίδια κατάφερα να επισκεφθώ όλες τις Αφρικανικές χώρες και το Φεβρουάριο του 2004 πάτησα πόδι στο Ανατολικό Τιμόρ . Την νεότερη τότε χώρα στον κόσμο που μόλις είχε αποσχιστεί από την Ινδονησία.

Αυτό αποδείχτηκε ήταν μια νέα αρχή παρά ένα τέλος όπως θα φανταζόταν κανείς.

Τι κάνει κάποιος που έχει σαν τρόπο ζωής το να ταξιδεύει όταν πια έχει επισκεφθεί όλες τις χώρες του πλανήτη; Δεν σκόπευα να γράψω τα απομνημονεύματα μου.

Κατάλαβα ότι αυτά που ΔΕΝ είχα δει και ΔΕΝ είχα επισκεφθεί ήταν περισσότερα απ όσα είχα πετύχει μέχρι εκείνη τη στιγμή. Τώρα θα άρχιζα να ταξιδεύω πραγματικά. Η γη δεν απαρτίζονταν μόνο από τις 193 χώρες του ΟΗΕ. Υπήρχαν βουνά, ποτάμια και λίμνες , νησιά και λαοί χαμένοι στον Ειρηνικό. Φυλές της Αφρικής και τις Αρκτικής, τα φιόρδ και οι Παγετώνες της Χιλής. Οι πάγοι της Ανταρκτικής και της Γροιλανδίας, τα εθνικά πάρκα της Σιβηρίας . Ο Βόρειος και ο Νότιος Πόλος . Ένας ατελείωτος κόσμος που δεν μετριέται με χώρες»

Ποιες είναι οι προσωπικότητες που συναντηθήκατε και σας έχουν στιγματίσει;

«Δεν συνάντησα προσωπικότητες που να άφησαν κάποιο στίγμα σε μένα . Απλά είδα και χαιρέτησα από κοντά κάποιους ηγέτες ή πρώην αρχηγούς κρατών από καθαρή συγκυρία . Το Δαλάι Λάμα στο Ζανσκάρ της Ινδίας , τον πρόεδρο Χαταμί του Ιράν, τον Βασιλιά Χουαν Κάρλος και τη Βασίλισσα Σοφία στη Νικαράγουα και τον πρωθυπουργό των νησιών Κουκ στον Ειρηνικό».

Ποιο είναι το πιο extreme ταξίδι που έχετε κάνει και γιατί;

«Το ταξίδι με μικρό ιστιοφόρο στο νησί Μαριόν της Ανταρκτικής, 2500 χιλιόμετρα Νότια του Καιηπ-τάουν . Χρειαστήκαμε 209 ώρες να φτάσουμε ταξιδεύοντας με δεξιά κλίση 35 μοιρών λόγω πλάγιων ανέμων. Πέφταμε από την κουκέτα. Αναγκάστηκα να κοιμηθώ στο πάτωμα. Τρώγαμε ελάχιστα, το ψυγείο χάλασε , τα κρέατα άρχισαν να μυρίζουν. Συνήλθαμε τις 4 μέρες που μείναμε στην νοτιοαφρικανική βάση του νησιού αλλά μας περίμεναν άλλες 190 ώρες τις επιστροφής. Αυτή τη φορά με …αριστερή κλίση 30 μοιρών! Οι άνεμοι μας έβγαλαν βορειότερα,- στο Πόρτ Ελιζαμπεθ, όπου μόλις πρόλαβα την πτήση για το Γιοχάνεσμπουργκ και την ανταπόκριση για Μεξικό. Έπρεπε να συναντήσω την αποστολή του Πανεπιστημίου Ντειβις για το νησί Κλίπερτον του Ειρηνικού για να μαρκάρουμε τους καρχαρίες με μικροτσιπ».

Ποιες είναι οι χώρες που ταιριάζουν πιο πολύ στην ελληνική κουλτούρα και τον δικό μας τρόπο ζωής;

«Μονολεκτικά θα έλεγα οι Μεσογειακές. Μετά οι Καυκασιανές (Γεωργία και Αρμενία) και τέλος οι Λατινοαμερικάνικες. Πιο απόμακρες από το δικό μας τρόπο ζωής είναι οι Ασιατικές χώρες της Άπω Ανατολής. Κίνα , Ιαπωνία , Κορέα και οι χώρες του Ειρηνικού Ωκεανού».

Υπάρχουν μέρη στην Ελλάδα που να μοιάζουν με κάποια που έχετε δει στο εξωτερικό; Και αν ναι, ποια είναι αυτά;

«Όχι! Η Ελλάδα έχει ένα πολύ ιδιαίτερο περιβάλλον που δεν μοιάζει με κανένα άλλο.

Η μόνη συγγενής περιοχή είναι τα παράλια της Μικράς Ασίας. Ούτε η Ισπανία, ούτε η Νότια Ιταλία έχει κάτι που να μοιάζει με την Ελλάδα . Το μόνο κοινό χαρακτηριστικό είναι οι ελαιώνες όταν και όπου υπάρχουν».

Οι πιο συγκλονιστικές χώρες ποιες είναι;

«Από πλευράς καθηλωτικού τοπίου πρώτη και χωρίς συναγωνισμό η Ανταρκτική. Μετά η Βενεζουέλα και τρίτη Οι Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες .

Από πλευράς αρχέγονου πολιτισμού και παραδόσεων (και ελάχιστα διαβρωμένου από τα δυτικά πρότυπα) η Νότια Αιθιοπία , Η Ναμίμπια , και η Ανατολική Ινδία».

Υπήρξαν χώρες που σας φάνηκαν «αδιάφορες» και μετανιώσατε που πήγατε; Ποιες είναι αυτές;

«Δεν μετανιώνω για κανένα ταξίδι που έχω κάνει .Όλες οι χώρες έχουν να προσφέρουν κάτι. Άλλες πολλά και άλλες λιγότερα. Η Ζαμπια μου φάνηκε πιο αδιάφορη σε σχέση με τις γειτονικές που διερωτώμαι μήπως κάπου έχω κάνει λάθος. Σκέπτομαι σοβαρά να ξαναπάω και να την επισκεφθώ πιο διεξοδικά».

Υπάρχει χώρα ή χώρες που έχετε επισκεφτεί παραπάνω από 1 φορά; Αν ναι, ποιες και γιατί πήγατε ξανά σε αυτές; Τι σας τράβηξε;

«Με ελάχιστες εξαιρέσεις ΟΛΕΣ τις χώρες τις έχω επισκεφθεί πάνω από μια φορά.

Σ’ αυτό συνέβαλε το γεγονός ότι σαν διοργανωτής ταξιδιών σε ταξιδιωτικό γραφείο τα ταξίδια που σχεδίαζα μετά από ένα-δύο χρόνια επαναλαμβάνονταν και τα συνόδευα ξανά. Έμειναν απέξω από την δεύτερη επίσκεψη χώρες που ποτέ δεν περιελήφθησαν στα προγράμματα του γραφείου ή χώρες που ανέστειλαν τη βίζα για τουρισμό (πχ Σαουδική Αραβία)».

Που έχετε γευτεί τα πιο όμορφα φαγητά και ποια ήταν αυτά;

«Τη γευστικότερη κουζίνα την έχει το Αζερμπαϊτζάν. Πλημμυρισμένη στα αρωματικά χόρτα και γευστικά ορεκτικά . Δεν θυμάμαι τα ονόματα αλλά ξέρω πως κάθε μπουκιά είναι μια απόλαυση. Είναι παράδοξο πως δεν κατέκτησε την διεθνή σκηνή και υπάρχουν μετριότητες -όπως η Ιταλική κουζίνα – που έχουν πείσει όλον τον κόσμο ότι είναι κάτι σπέσιαλ. Μετά έρχεται η Μεξικάνική   με πλούσιες νοστιμιές και η Αιθιοπική με πολύ ιδιαίτερη   προσωπικότητα που δεν είναι όμως για όλα τα γούστα».

Υπήρξε κάτι που σας θύμωσε και αν ναι, που;

«Η απόπειρα κάποιων αξιωματούχων σε διάφορες χώρες (που δεν είναι πάντα οι ίδιες)  να επωφεληθούν από την εξουσία τους και να προσπαθούν να αποσπάσουν χρήματα από τους ξένους ταξιδιώτες. Μου συνέβη σε χώρες “υπεράνω υποψίας” όπως η Κοστα Ρικα αλλά και σε αρκετές Αφρικανικές σε περιόδους οικονομικής και πολιτικής κρίσης».

Έχετε βρεθεί σε εμπόλεμη ζώνη και πως έχετε αντιδράσει;

«Βρέθηκα σε χώρες σε περιόδους σε εμφύλιου πόλεμου όπως Σομαλία , Λιβερία Μπουρούντι , Σαλβαδόρ και Αφγανιστάν αλλά αυτό δεν σημαίνει ότι οι σφαίρες σφύριζαν πάνω από το κεφάλι μου. Δεν βρέθηκα σε διασταυρούμενα πυρά».

Σε παλαιότερη συνέντευξη σας είχατε πει πως το πρώτο σας ταξίδι έγινε στην Βουλγαρία. Αν σας έλεγε κάποιος τότε (το 80) ότι θα επισκεπτόσασταν όλες τις χώρες του κόσμου δεν θα τον πιστεύατε…

«Δεν θα το απέκλεια. Ήταν πολύ νωρίς ακόμα για να το πάρω τοις μετρητοίς αλλά δεν είχα κάποιο φραγμό -άλλο από τον οικονομικό φυσικά- για να το αποκλείσω».

Το ρεκόρ Γκίνες το επιδιώξατε ή προέκυψε και πως;

«Μπα, ούτε επεδίωξα ούτε μα απασχόλησε προσωπικά . Ήταν ένας Έλληνας δημοσιογράφος που το ξεκίνησε μετά από μια συνέντευξη μου, όταν επισκέφθηκα και την τελευταία χώρα (το Ανατολικό Τιμόρ)».

Αν κάποιος δεν έχει βγει ποτέ από τα σύνορα της Ελλάδας και επιθυμεί να ταξιδέψει στο εξωτερικό ποια χώρα θα του προτείνατε;

«Πρώτη και καλύτερη την Τουρκία. Μόνο να περπατήσεις κατά μήκος της γέφυρας του Γαλατά στον Κεράτιο Κόλπο της Κωνσταντινούπολης είναι ένα υπερθέαμα. Φτηνά, κοντά και γρήγορα».

Εσείς που έχετε γυρίσει τον πλανήτη αν σας καλούσαν στον ΟΗΕ ή στον οποιοδήποτε Παγκόσμιο Ανθρωπιστικό Οργανισμό και σας έλεγαν αναδείξτε μου τα 3 μεγαλύτερα προβλήματα που αντιμετωπίζουν οι άνθρωποι, ποια θα ήταν αυτά;

«Πολλές χώρες της Σαχαριανής Αφρικής και των οροπεδίων της Νότιας Αμερικής υποφέρουν από λειψυδρία και καθαρό ασφαλές πόσιμο νερό. Αυτό είναι το πρώτο που πρέπει να λυθεί.

Το δεύτερο είναι η πλημμυρίδα των πλαστικών στις θάλασσες και τις ακτές. Πρέπει να σταματήσει …χτες. Ακόμη και σε δυσπρόσιτα μέρη του Ειρηνικού που δεν τα βρίσκεις ούτε στο χάρτη καταφτάνουν πλαστικά από την Ασία και την Αμερική.

Το τρίτο είναι η μείωση της άγριας ζωής .Πουλιά και ζώα -στεριανά και θαλασσινά- μειώνονται συνεχώς και εξαφανίζονται. Φτωχαίνουμε σαν πλανήτης».

Ο πλανήτης είναι γεμάτος ανισότητες;

«Η ανισότητα φαίνεται είναι μέρος της φύσης από καταβολής κόσμου . Δεν βρίσκω ότι είναι μια απρόσμενη κατάσταση.

Και δεν εννοώ πλούσιος ή φτωχός άσπρος ή μαύρος και τα σχετικά. Εννοώ την αρχέγονη φύση, τα όντα που ζουν και κινούνται στην επιφάνεια του ή στις θάλασσες του».

Η ζωή τελικά είναι ένα ταξίδι;

Greek traveler Babis Bizas sent his guidebook in English “All the Russias” to the Russian Geographical Society. Bizas wrote to the President of the Russian Geographical Society Sergey Shoygu that the preparation of the book was for him “a moral duty – not only as a member of the Russian Geographical Society, but also to the great country, I consider as my second home country.”

To Bizas who admires Repin, Vrubel, Vasnetsov, Shishkin, Aivazovsky Russia is close in spirit. “It feels genuine patriotism and love for the homeland here. Family ties and respect for veterans. Russia is the last place where these values are alive,” -he explains.

The so-called flying Dutchman, traveling Rambo, Odysseus of our tine, or simply one of the world’s most traveling people (according to the National Geographic Traveler version) Bizas had been to 194 countries and  visited the North Pole and Antarctica. Road Travels fascinated him since childhood, and his work in the tourism industry helped him to fulfill this dream.

He spends 300 days a year traveling, and his wife Penelope, native of Ithaca, is waiting for him at home. It was his wife to whom Bizas dedicated “All the Russias”: “You must have a Homeric name to be able to tolerate my long absences for many years.” By the way, favorite poems of Bizas in Russian are the poems of the cycle “Wait for me, and I’ll be back …” by Konstantin Simonov.

Bizas had been collecting materials for the guidebook for 30 years. He really saw the whole country – from the Crimea to the Bering Strait, from Franz Josef Land to the Kuril Islands. The book tells about small towns and megacities of our country. The traveler accompanied his narrative with maps, colorful photographs and an alphabetical index.

In the book one won’t find reviews on hotels, although Bizas awards from one to five stars to each place he visited: the only criterion of the rating is his fascination. He gives five stars to not universally recognized tourist centers. In his guidebook Vologda, Tobolsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan and Kizhi are on top of the rating.

Tomsk became the first city with five stars on the road from east to west. “The most beautiful city in Siberia, with countless rivers, swamps, lakes, Tomsk is the pearl of Siberia,” Babis tells in the guidebook. But the Arctic deserves more than five stars, he says – “the last untouched wildlife in the world.”

Russia amazes and fascinates the author, now and again the reader can see three exclamation marks at the end of a sentence. Passing through the text there are historical notes, linguistic remarks (Babis learned Russian when he was a student), gastronomic impressions, advice where to stroll and what to see in each city.

All 256 pages contain interesting details, noticed by a foreigner. The traveler tells how he was tangled in time changing the time zones on the road from Chukotka, how he enjoyed salmon with black bread in Yakutia, how he was surprised by the titles in Russian and Hebrew in Birobidzhan, how he was shocked by a giant statue of Lenin’s head in Ulan-Ude. “I have not seen so many kissing couples on benches anywhere, in parks, on bridges, as I saw in Omsk”.

Babis gives an advice to the tourists in Russia: “Read my book, travel light, agree in advance with the taxi drivers about the price, eat in the cook-shops, not in McDonald’s.”

Born in 1954 in Greece, the globetrotter started traveling at a young age. While still studying Slavic languages at university, he would often pack his backpack and hit the road. His main mode of transportation was hitchhiking. His passion for traveling did not subside as he got older. Instead, everything in life became subordinate to travel. Babis Bizas has reached all corners of our planet and has established himself as a travel specialist who writes booksand also organizes trips for other, less experienced enthusiasts who wish to learn about the world.His accomplishments so far have made a great impression.

He was among the first travelers who proved that boundaries can be broken in no time with the right attitude. For those who dream of conquering other places on our planet, lack of money can be an issue. But his persistence and determination early on allowed him to travel to Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Mozambique, South Africa, or the United States. As he stressed, money never fell from the sky. When he didn’t have enough money, he would finda job that would allow him to continue with his passion, for example working on a boat orfor a travel agency.

 
Naturally, people who do not want to be idle but instead travel to reach places will enjoy working in an industry that allows them to pursue their interests. Today’s travelers have a much wider range of options in the internet age – they can make money from short videos, upload photos to social media sites, or advertise various products. Aside from bloggers, trendsetters and influencers are becoming more and more fashionable today. In short, with a little luck, you can travel a lot today and comfortably watch your bank balance grow thanks to sponsors.

 
Babis admits that he also made a living while traveling, but he had a much more difficult task. Until now, he has worked, inter alia, as a travel guide, mainly to Southeast Asia and later to Africa. He also wrote travel guides and travel books. He is considered the expert for all types of travel, in particular to lesser-known destinations. Those who wanted to get to a place lacking tourist infrastructure would go to him for guidance. He brought groups of tourists to countries such as Nigeria, Chad, or Guinea-Bissau.

 
By his thirties,Babis had already visited the places that are considered to bethe largest tourist attractions in the world. Then he decided to slow down a bit to start exploring less popular places. Not only has he visited all 194 countries in the world (an achievement completed in 2004), but he has also been to places rarely seen by even the most active travelers. He reached the North Pole in 1996, and eighteen years later the South Pole, the first Greek who visited both poles. He returned to the Arctic and the Arctic Circle many times. He has reached areas that are considered to bethe most inaccessible places on our planet. It is not a coincidence that the National Geographic Traveler and the China Daily called him “The Most Traveled Man on Earth”.  After all, his wife is called…Penelope!
